Behold, Our Land

Photographer: Georgie Mann

Georgie Mann’s work is an homage to the flat, seemingly desolate landscapes of deserts and salt lakes.

Georgie, these images are a pastel delight! Can you tell us about them?

I was on a solo road trip up the Birdsville Track on assignment to capture the flooded Channel Country and a filling Lake Eyre further north. The Channel Country north had burst to life as flooded rivers carved their way to Lake Eyre; yet here at Marree, the drought-stricken country remained as parched as ever. I had my drone out one late afternoon when I came across this scene by chance - I knew the long shadows would look magnificent from above. I had a dying battery and limited time to get the shot before the horses trotted off beyond range.

Read Georgie’s tips for drone photography in Vol. 01 of Bush Journal.

Georgie Mann is a photographer from western Victoria.
